About Us
Western Upper Peninsula District Health Department is the northernmost local public health department in Michigan. Established in 1936, it is a special government unit serving
the public health demands of the residents of the western upper peninsula. We provide State mandated public health services and operate non-required programs that are important to the community’s health. The largest of these is the home care division, known as Superior Home Health and Hospice Division.
Public health works to prolong life and promote community health through disease prevention, control of environmental health hazards, and attention to the health needs of vulnerable population groups. Western Upper Peninsula District Health Department has committed itself to a vision which calls it to continually assess the well being of the community, provide the highest quality of care and services, and strive to be the best of public servants.
