Information about Legionella

Legionella are bacteria that live in water and can cause two different illnesses. The most common illness is called Pontiac Fever, and is a mild, flu-like illness with fever, aches, and chills. Pontiac Fever is typically brief and resolves without treatment.

Less common is the more severe form of legionella infection, called Legionnaire’s Disease. People with Legionnaire’s Disease develop pneumonia and frequently require hospitalization. People with compromised immune systems are at higher risk of developing this infection.
