To protect the health of those seeking body art services within the State of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Community Health has developed comprehensive requirements under which body art facilities must operate. The requirements place the responsibility of licensing body art facilities and technicians with the local health department.
The Michigan Body Art Code requires the following:
- permits for establishments
- sanitation guidelines and requirements for proper post-piercing care
- technician completion of a course with the OSHA required content on bloodborne pathogens
- the Hepatitis B vaccination series be offered to all technicians employed by the body art establishment
Not all body art facilities are licensed!
