Children’s Health Programs

Access to health care, preventive services and good nutrition are important during pregnancy, infancy and childhood. Western U.P. Health Department provides many programs and services for pregnant women and children, some available to the entire population, and others targeting children and families with special needs or low household incomes. These programs are generally offered in the Health Department’s four offices, with some additional outreach services at school or community sites.

Programs for infants, toddlers and pregnant women include maternal-infant health programs for low-income families, breastfeeding support, WIC (Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program), childhood immunization, programs for children with special health care needs, and Healthy Kids (Medicaid) and MIChild public insurance programs for low-income families.

Programs for school-aged children include immunization, hearing and vision screening, and school-based health education and research-based prevention programs.
