Existing sewage systems may require inspections/site evaluations for a number of reasons, including:

    • To obtain a Child or Adult Care Facility License
    • To obtain an MDARD Food License
    • Real estate transactions/Home Loan Evaluation
    • Planned increases in flow to an existing system due to building remodel or addition

During the inspection of an existing sewage system a Sanitarian will assess the capacity of the existing system and determine compliance with the Upper Peninsula Environmental Health Code.

*The typical wait time for an appointment is 4-6 weeks from receipt of a complete application and payment.

To initiate an existing system inspection, please complete our Request for Service Application.

The applicant is required to have a licensed septage hauler onsite to pump the septic tank during the inspection.
